A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

There is an old saying in economics that a rising tide lifts all boats.  It's not exactly on point and The Dirt isn't really economics but it is relevant in a way to how I feel about this site.  As Secret In The Dirt grows it has been my goal to help all of our members grow.  First I want their knowledge of this great game to grow. I then want their appreciation of the players and teachers who came before them to grow.  Most importantly through respectful sharing and dialogue I want them to learn here what they need to know in order to improve their games through a new environment of shared experience and social learning.

I remember with great fondness hitting ball after ball on the driving range at Brock Golfland.  My friend Chris Wilson was an aspiring pro and we would share ideas with one another and spur each other on through friendship and competition.

"Bet you 5 you can't hit ten in a row between the maple and the 250 sign!!!"

"I'll take that bet, but first show me that low fade shot you were working on.  How'd you get the ball to do that Chris?"

and so it goes.  Working together to improve and enjoying not just our own progress but each others progress.  That is the true spirit of golf.

From the beginning I wanted...Scratch that WE all wanted Secret In The Dirt to be a two way street. We want to talk to you all and we can and do through videos and private messaging and the forums, but we more than anything else want you to talk with one another.  When we started I wanted all of our members to have access to essentially the same tools as I did.  It was important that if I was going to be blogging in Secret In The Dirt, that all of our members had tools so that they too could write blogs.  Same goes with the forums and group formations (you should note that Groups are back!).  Likewise if we were going to be selling things to you we also wanted to create something so that you could sell to us and to each other and so we developed the first incarnation of which also we be going through a significant upgrade very soon.

Ultimately I wanted the best content generation tool that we could develop and I wanted our members also to be able to use it.  I had been so happy on so many occasions to see our members blogging and then so disappointed when their blogs sort of vaporized as the activity stream wizzed by.... So I thought we could create a front page where we could give writers a little more exposure.  In the process I have built what I need also to generate a great deal more content than I have previously been able to and so with The Journal that has finally changed.  Your Course Reviews also have a new place to land beyond the activity stream. This was what we wanted from the beginning and now we have finally figured out how to put it together in a way that we hope will matter.

Enjoy The Journal and get writing.  Your blogs will automatically publish to the front page and if you really get on a roll you may just get featured.

Hit 'em straight,

We are working on a streamlined process to get your old Secret In The Dirt accounts to work at Secret Golf where this forum resumes. If you can't wait click this URL… and you should be able to activate your old account. You will need to authenticate it with either LinkedIn or Facebook. This is basically how we can keep the forum free.
