There are a lot of great books from around the turn of the century from golfers like Harold Hiltion, James Braid, and Harry Vardon that are now in the public domain. Google has scanned a lot of these so that anyone can download them straight to their computer. Here is a list of all of the great ones I know of, along with their links:

-Hilton won the British Am 4 times, the British Open twice, and the US Am once

-Ouimet was the winner of the now famous 1913 US Open, as an amateur

10. Chick Evans' Golf book
11. Advanced Golf, by James Braid
-Braid was 5 time winner of Open championship
12. Traver's Golf Book
-Travers won the US Open, 4 US Amateurs, and many other big Am tournaments
13. The Gate to Golf, by J. Douglas Edgar
-J Douglas Edgar won 2 Canadian Opens, along with the French Open. His 1919 victory at the Canadian Open still stands as a record for the highest margin of victory- 16 shots.

-Vardon won a total of 6 British Opens, a record
