On June 9, 1907, Mike Turnesa was born. He was part of the famous Turnesa golfing family.
Turnesa won many times on the PGA Tour, including two Westchester Open titles. Mike's brother Jim won the 1952 PGA Championship over Chick Harbert.
Although Mike Turnesa never won a major title, he finished second to Ben Hogan in two big events. The first was the 1942 Hale America Tournament, which was the substitute for the US Open during that year (it is not officially counted as a major). Turnesa finished second to Ben Hogan. In 1948, Turnesa finished second to Hogan again, this time at the PGA Championship.
Marc Turnesa, a winner on the Nationwide and PGA Tours, is Mike's granson.
