Ken Venturi, famed golf announcer and winner of 14 PGA Tour events including the 1964 US Open was born on this day in 1931.

Venturi began his career in home town San Francisico playing public courses like Harding Park at an early age. By the time he reached 20 he had already made a name for himself as a top amateur and had spent time under the great Byron Nelson as a pupil.
