The Dirt Blogs
Welcome to The Dirt Blogs, where staff, members, and guests contribute their wisdom.
Quirky, strange, shy, introverted, sensitive, standoffish and a golf genius. These terms and many others have been bandied around for years whenever the name Moe Norman is brought up.
There is something happening in The Dirt and it is what we had hoped would happen when we created this place. People are absorbing all that they can and putting the pieces together to create great golf swings. Their own great golf swings. The picture to the left is of one of my favorite golf instruction books of all time. The very same book has also been released as "The Methods of Golf's Masters" with a variety of different covers.
The launch of the Secret in the Dirt Production, "Martin Ayer's - The Most Powerful Move in Golf" has been a big success. We appreciate the outpouring of support for the video.
Since the launch, Martin has received a number of emails regarding the video, and he has decided to add some bonus material to complement the video and he will be doing a live Q & A session Monday night on Ustream.tv
Every day here in The Dirt seems to get just a little bit more gratifying. Thanks to everyone for the PM’s and to some of you also for phone calls and other recent expressions of encouragement. More important my apologies to some of the people that I have missed who were attempting to reach me via the chat function. Two things have happened there. First there have been a lot of chats to try to keep up with at certain times and second sometimes I’ve failed to properly log off before stepping away from my computer and so there have been quite a few failed attempts to connect with me. If you miss me on chat please know that I’m not ignoring you and if I miss you and it’s important always feel free to send me a PM.
We are happy to announce the release of Martin Ayer's new video, The Most Powerful Move In Golf produced by Steve Elkington and me along with Martin for Secret In The Dirt.
As many of you know Martin developed a large following in his own right by expressing his unique ideas on Youtube and in various golf forums. He was also one of the earliest members, supporters and advocates of Secret in the Dirt, both the ebook and our social community. In fact Martin was the 3rd of now thousands of people who bought the original Secret In The Dirt Ebook.
I was talking on the phone the other day with Jimmy Nissen. He had just finished reading George Knudson’s great book “The Natural Golf Swing”. Jimmy said “I know where you got all your stuff.”
I said “Of course Jimmy. Have you been asleep for the last two years? Anyone who read Secret In The Dirt knows how much of an influence Knudson and his ideas were on my understanding of the golf swing.” During the conversation it sort of dawned on me how much information I’ve taken in over the years and also how much we all tend to take for granted as we improve and learn more. The importance of new information supplants the old. It is sort of too bad because sometimes I think we actually wind up going backwards the more we learn.
I always liked that look of the right heel leading the toe and moving targetward as the foot came away from the ground on the downswing. I liked the look of it but it took me forever to understand the mechanics of it. When I used to practice a lot I would try to just give that foot a twist at the point that I thought was just about right. I could never really get it to work. Moving into the ball I wanted to look like Hogan did in this sequence as the last of the weight leaves the right side.
I remember talking to Moe Norman and Nick Faldo came up. Moe said that Faldo was great but that he would be even better if he had more reaction in his swing. “All action…no reaction!” is what he said. Moe understood cause and effect in the golf swing just about as well as anyone that I can think of. The drop move that he made through the ball achieved a similar effect with the right heel but he just kept it planted long and basically rolled the whole foot.
Thanks to everyone who came out to our clinic at Brookside!! It was great to see a few hundred golf fanatics gathered together like that all eager to learn.
Tim Terwilliger and his gang at Brookside were fantastic hosts and where we were set up on that first hole made it particularly fun for me to have a go with the driver. So a special thanks for choosing a really great spot for us to put on our Secret in The Dirt dog and pony show.
L.A. Open week. It always gets me excited.
