About me
I am a writer, a book author, and I play to a 12.2 handicap index. Right now, my golf is restricted to one round a month as I plug away on my second book, Most Wonderful Shooting, which is scheduled for release in 2013-14 by University of Texas Press. I'm frugal (OK, cheap), which means I stick to munis and other places that charge less than $25. I walk and carry my bag. I'm quite comfortable with how I go about my participation in the greatest game ever created.

About My Game
I'm starting to read Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons." I hope I have the "intelligent application" Mr. Hogan talks about and that a swing producing golf shots of "real character" are within reach as he says
I Need To Work On
Finding partners with the abilities, sense of adventure and knowledge of the rules that I appreciate. In other words, let's tee it from the tips, ditch the cart, save the booze until the 19th hole and smoke a good stogie when we're done!
What's In My Bag
I chose a set of Hogan PCs over Wilson Tour Blades for $340 some 25 years ago. I recently found that line of Wilsons for $40, used, in nice condition, so I hit those now. The 9-iron was missing from the PCs, or I would not have switched. Classic set.
Best Score
79
Best Shot
Way too many to list. Haaaaaah! But that 190-yard 4-iron into No. 13 at Stevens Park in Dallas around Christmas wasn't bad, even though I missed the putt for what would have been a second-straight birdie.
Favorite Player
Tom Watson
Favorite Tournament
Not the Masters. How about the Alamo City Golf Trail Players' Club Championship?
Favorite Golf Books
Down The Fairway, by Robert Jones and O.B. Keeler
Harvey Penick's Little Red Book, by Harvey Penick with Bud Shrake
Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf, by Ben Hogan with Herbert Warren Wind
Ideal Foursome
Me and three no-shows (unless the people I am paired with are really out there to play golf and not just out riding a cart and drinking a beer in between swings). Often, I play golf like George Thorogood drinks: Alone.

After planning some British golf for vacation in June, I'll think now about my participation in the next stroke-play event at our local Alamo City Golf Trail Players Club. It's Sunday at Mission Del Lago on the southern edge of San Antonio near a Toyota plant. It was designed by Denis Griffiths, who collaborated on the designs at St. Andrew's Bay resort. One more practice round to go.
