About me
Professional jazz/rock/studio guitarist and teacher in the D/FW area. Been golfing since I was 7 years old and really have been going at it hard for the past 4 or 5 years. Really enjoy compressing the pill. Made a good number of friends in the professional golf scene around Dallas, not to mention the friendships I've made here on the Dirt.

I'm a teacher at heart, and I enjoy sharing what I myself have learned through the years. If you have any questions about golf (or music for that matter), hit me up. I'm no expert, but I'm sure I have something to offer.

About My Game
Been working for years on becoming a good ballstriker. I have highs and lows just like everyone. Usually hit a good number of greens (highest was 16 of 18), but I'm a pretty mediocre recovery player and only a decent putter.
I Need To Work On
Putting and wedge play.

I think I'm gonna play my persimmon woods full time for a while. Shot even par with them the day after the pre-qualifier. (Where was THAT guy on Thursday?) Love that sound and feel. I think I hit steel shafted drivers straighter anyway!

  • Wow. Just wow. I don't even know how to comment on this.

It is up to the individual to decide what they believe in. If you are imposing your own atheistic beliefs onto your students (making them recite them back to you, no less) because you think it somehow makes them better golfers, then you are sadly misinformed and even in violation of our country's First Amendment.

I have a MacGregor Ironmaster that I really like...but so far the best blade I've tried in recent years was my friend's old Odyssey 882.

    Big, long blade...same length as the cup's diameter...no alignment line...soft feel...yeah, that one's a killer.

Kenan, good stuff so far. Hogan (and many other great strikers) had a pretty pronounced lay-off move in transition...that's what gets the butt of the club pointing outside the ball.

The way I feel the club laying off is this: At the top of the swing, I begin to unwind towards the target with my lower body...nothing too complicated there. Maves' video on The Navel is very good if you want some info there. At the same time, I actively release the cup in my left wrist. It...

Hey Kenan, I don't mind at all! Heck, even my swing has changed somewhat since that video, because I have flattened my clubs a great deal to achieve a more lower-body-driven motion than I had at that time.

With that said, I see a lot of improvement in your own action...but there's still work to be done. I still see a great deal of arm throw/cast/pivot stall in your motion. Let me put up a few key screenshots from your downswing (and yes, these are all from ONE swing, so no...

  • Still man, I don't think people judge their performance--and therefore their love or hate for the game--by how good they hit it on the range. The game is played out on the course. When they chunk that 5 iron and come up short into the water in front of #6, THAT'S what gives them the sinking feeling (so to speak).

If anything, it could be MORE confusing if they practice on a mat...because they'll be saying "I hit it fine on the range...what the heck happened?"Read More...

  • Kenan, don't forget, I used to suck too! (Sometimes I still do!)

That said, I never even knew driving range mats existed until I got into college...and I'd been playing golf (badly) for 15 years before that. All the ranges I ever knew as a kid were grass.

I don't buy the "mats will save golf" argument...golf's been around for a lot longer than artificial turf. ...
