I recall going to many Major events and seeing how the Pros put lead tape on the back of the irons and it always seemed to be to cover up the name of the club when they did not match the name on the bag. Faldo did it with his Mizuno blades in the Wilson bag, Lyle did it, and many others.

Not saying some didnt do it to make their clubs heavier but sometimes the lead tape was just enough to go over the manufacturers name and was then smoothed out so much I doubt it had any...
