Pacific Dunes - OMG
Pacific Dunes in my mind is the best public/resort golf course in the country and the second place finisher is about 5 shots back. Pacific Dunes has everything Pebble has without the history. Its breath taking views of the ocean seem to be visable from every hole. This is a place you go to golf and if you died this is the course you want to see your maker on. I have played in Scotland and this course is as close to a Scottish/Irish Links as you can find in the states.
To make things even better it has some beautiful sisters in Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, Old Macdonald and if you ever get the chance...the ultra secret Goat Farm.
Pebble Beach
Although Pebble Beach is a great golf destination, I think it is over-rated. While some holes are absolutely beautiful, others are quite ordinary. I have heard people call Pebble Beach a second shot course and I think that is a fair assessment...very little trouble off the tee and relatively wide open. At $500 for 18 holes I think you would have to call it over-rated. That being said if the fee was $300 or less you might have a better argument.
Sabal Trace update
There are actually 53 sand traps on the course. New group running it and it seems to be coming around condition wise. The fairways are very good and the rest of the course and the greens are coming around as well. Great course lay-out. Price is not too bad for Florida in season!
Diamond Back it takes balls to play Diamond Back (Take Plenty)
Some narrow fairways! but a great challenge. It can be scored on but good play is required! Trees frame fairways and off line shots are punished! This is a good finish course after a week of Myrtle Beach golf!
Unique course on the Intercoastal waterway
Nice Carolina style holes inland then 4 Very unique holes on the Intercoastal. One of my Favorites
Cypress Bay Older course starting to get better
Getting better
River Hills
Great course, good test of golf. Can be tough on higher handicaps. Great practice area.Driving Range
Oyster Bay hidden Gem
What a gem! throw out the yardage book ,although it says its 6300 yards it plays much tougher! There are holes that will never be built again! 30 foot bulkheads and par threes in middle of coastal marsh lakes two hundred yards from the Intercoastal waterway. My Favorite course Just watch out for the Gators in mating season. The best of Myrtle Beach golf

Best Course in Marin County
Best course in Marin and in the top 10 of California. Alister McKenzie built in 1927. Very fast large greens, lots of bunkers and they keep it in great shape. One of the only courses in California you never see a house from anywhere on the course.
The best in the west
Living in Oregon can be tough because there are several good golf courses up and down the I-5 Interstate. But, the course that stands out among all of them is Emerald Valley (EV for the locals). This course has been rated #5 in the state. The owner dropped $millions to bring it to the caliber that it is now. The best advice is bring your game and play it and then come back and play again, and again.. You will not be disappointed.
